It was a good flight except for the approach and landing. Firstly it was the very steep descent required (4000ft/min) and then the throttle was an issue (it wouldn't slow down). Aborted landing and carried out a teardrop approach to land the other direction but the plane still wouldn't slow with zero throttle, speed brakes and max flaps. Did another teardrop back to the original runway and this time I figured out the problem and shut the engines on touchdown. Managed to avoid a catastrophe by mere meters over the other set of numbers. |

I departed Anchorage at 1907 LT (0507GMT)... and after nearly 10 hrs in the air... I touched down at 0240GMT (?!?)... Shouldn't it be 1440GMT? Anyway... it was an uneventful flight on the way back although I had a little excitement on the approach thanks to the murky conditions. Time for short-haul European flights again. |

Flight #6. Flew in good weather. Visibility on approach was great. Performed an ILS approach and autoland despite the good visibility just to keep myself refreshed on the procedures. Anchorage needs to move the localiser for Rwy 6R abt a dozen feet to the right though, as the plane landed on the "left lane". |

Got some snow as I departed Fairbank. The return flight took slightly longer. Flew the last stages of the flight surrounded by clouds and relied on instruments. (That explained the horrendous fps drop to 15fps). Dropped out of the clouds too late and had to dive for it. Not too bad but could be better. |

Contacted ATC and was vectored away from the airport while descending. Ended up a good 40nm away before I was turned around. Heck, I was nearer to Belgium than Amsterdam!! Flew this a few days ago but forgot to file it. Departed Innsbruck in the ERJ170 and headed for Manchester. Speaking of Manchester, United has equaled a record made 100 yrs ago, when they scored four goals in four consecutive games. Go, United! :) Ok, ok, back on topic. It was an uneventful night flight, although climbing out of the Innsbruck valley in darkness was a little nerve-wrecking. I held runway bearing for a bit longer just to make sure I cleared the mountains on both sides before making my turn. |
